I love this time of year. It’s a fresh new start to a brand new year. It’s a time of looking ahead and making new goals for the coming months. One of the goals we’ve made for the new year is to continue the feeling of community here at Love that Shot. One way we’d like to do this is through the sharing of photographs… what better way to share photos than with a Project 365 photo challenge!

Now, before you say, “Whoa there Misti, hold on! That’s 365 photos. How on earth can I keep up with a photo a day for an entire year?!” Well, that’s the beauty of our challenge. Notice the tagline, “Perfection not required.”

We mean it! You don’t have to be perfect in order to participate. Join in when you can, but there’s no pressure when you just can’t find the time. We’re all human. There are going to be days when we’re sick or swamped with life. If you’re like me, you’ll probably miss a day, or two, or ten! That’s okay. Just jump in whenever you like.

What is a Project 365?

It’s simply a photo a day for one year (365 days). There are no limits. You can shoot anything from landscapes to flowers, from portraits to the everyday, and more. You have complete control, and more importantly, freedom!

Why do it?

You know the saying, “The more you do something, the better you become at it?” That’s why you should do a P365! If you want to hone your skills as a photographer, learn a new technique, get out of a rut, or just capture your everyday, then this project is for you! Whether you’re a beginner, hobbyist, pro, smartphone photographer, you name it.

How do I participate?

Instagram:
The best camera is the one you have with you. More often than not, it’s a smartphone. So, snap a photo, edit it if you like, and upload it to Instagram, using the hashtag #LTS365. You can share your photos daily, or weekly in a collage. It’s completely up to you.

Any tips for success?

  1. Set goals!
Even if they’re small. If you set a goal, you’re more likely to accomplish your project.
  2. Make it fun, give yourself a theme!
If you feel like giving yourself a theme, go for it! An idea might be to shoot artificial light for an entire week. You might use a specific lens for a month. Or, you might give yourself a theme of just capturing the “everyday” for the entire year. Whatever it is you choose, make sure it’s fun and something that excites you!
  3. Share, share, share!
One way to keep going and ensure your success is to be a part of the community… and the only way to do that is to share your photos and interact with the other participants. So, hop on Instagram and share away!
