The Expo at Photoshop World was a photographer’s playground filled with some of the latest equipment and cutting-edge software! And the best part? They actually encouraged us to play!
One of the main attractions was the Westcott booth. They had teamed up with NAPP to bring the attendees a great portfolio-building opportunity. The stage was set, complete with professional lighting, backgrounds, props, and models in full costume. They were scenes straight out of a fantasy novel, including a knight, wood nymph, and several more!
Now, if shooting an alien or barbarian just isn’t your cup of tea…well, underneath all the makeup, costume, and scenery, it’s still a person lit with professional lighting. It was a great opportunity to practice the art of shooting with lamps and reflectors. And to top it all off, there were Westcott representatives there to give us photography tips and answer any questions we had, not only about their equipment, but how to use light differently to create various moods in a photo. They were friendly, happy, and professional, which helped us connect with the models and feel at ease shooting. Knowing where the shadows fell, and placement of the figure in relation to the light and background, was worth its weight in gold. Definitely a great opportunity for a photographer looking to add commercial pieces to their portfolio or for someone who wants to shoot creatively.

The competition heated up once the expo closed, when the Photoshop World Shootout Contest was opened up for entries. This was a fun opportunity to share the photos we took at the Westcott booth during the expo and compete for some awesome lighting equipment of our own! There were over 700 photos entered, so you can bet the Westcott representatives had their work cut out for them!
If you’re planning on attending a Photoshop World in the future, and I highly recommend that you do, The Expo is a definite must-see!
