There is just something so magical about evergreens covered in fluffy white snow! And that’s exactly how I would describe this photo… magical. Captured in my neck of the woods, this stunning photo was taken in Yellowstone National Park by Stacy White, a nature, landscape, and sports photographer from Sarasota, Florida. I asked Stacy to share the story behind her photo and she was kind enough to take a few minutes to share her thoughts.

This is one of my favorite winter photos – partly because of the memory of that it evokes. I did my first ever winter trip to Yellowstone and was completely amazed by the difference of being there in the winter. If you haven’t gone to Yellowstone in the winter, you can only enter by snowcoach or snowmobile, so there is very few people in the park. The snow and lack of vehicle traffic – not to mention the extremely cold temperatures – really gives the park a completely different feel. 

For this photo, most of it was the right place at the right time. It has snowed pretty heavy the day before, which gives the trees that great snowy look! This was later in the afternoon and the clouds and sun being down below the ridge gave the sky those great sun rays. 

After it was taken, there was a little dust spots removed in the sky, color balance adjusted, and I cropped up the bottom to remove some clumps in the snow I thought were a little distracting.
