Come along with me on my first Photo Adventure with the Nikon D850! I’m sharing some of the cool features I discovered as I set up the menus. We start off a little rocky trying to find the perfect snowy location… I checked all the weather/road reports and this area was supposed to have been slammed with snow (apparently the storm shifted slightly). Lol! But we end up finding snow and the perfect location to test out Focus Shift, one of the features I was most excited to play with. I hope you enjoy!

Any way you dice it, this is just a quirky subject to photograph! I love how this photo turned out and I’m blown away with the dynamic range the D850 captured in this photo. I wanted to keep this image pretty clean, so I opted for just some minor edits in Camera RAW to color and clarity (bringing out more detail in the sky).

These doors were just begging for a texture! So, I chose to apply the Vercelli texture from the Olde World Collection to burn the edges a bit and add an overall warmth to the door and brick surrounding. The before photo below shows foundation edits, before the texture was applied.

I love taking the opportunity to really zoom in on details when I’m at a location. It’s in these details that a story can be found. I thought the contrast between the rugged door and the “welcome” sign was super cool!
I also used the Vercelli texture from the Olde World Collection to keep continuity throughout this collection of photos. Slide the arrows to see the photo before I applied the texture.

This was the photo that I set out to capture on this Photo Adventure… a snowy landscape scene to practice a new-to-me technique… Focus Stacking. I’m really happy with the results. Of course, there are things I would do differently. I would have loved a less overcast sky. I also would have loved to have seen fresh snow blanketing the trees. But you do what you can do, and there’s always next time. Now that I’m a little more familiar with this location, I can’t wait to get out there and practice focus stacking some more!

What’s Up Next?
I couldn’t wait to share this Photo Adventure featuring my new D850 with you, so I snuck it in the lineup. Up next will be the adventure I’ve been promising from Northern Idaho. We filmed it last June and it’s a fun one. We’ll be going on a nature hike around a sweet little mountain lake in Northern Idaho. There will be some camping, wildlife, and beautiful mountain scenery, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, make sure you head on over to Youtube and subscribe so you don’t miss any of the fun! You can also sign up for our newsletter, where you’ll be the first to know when we drop a new episode. Until next time, get out there, get clickin’, adventure awaits!
