Let’s go on a scenic drive together that leads to some pretty spectacular views for landscape photography at the summit of White Bird Grade in Central Idaho. Fair warning, this drive is not for the faint of heart, with steep inclines, numerous switchbacks, and sharp drop-offs. Do you have what it takes to brave the treacherous roads? Let’s go!

I used Photo Veils from the Botanical and Illumination Collections in editing the photos featured in this video. Check out the before and after photos below (before photos include foundation edits, after photos show the addition of Photo Veils).

This first photo really tells the story of how dangerous White Bird Hill can be. While checking out the spectacular views, I noticed wreckage on the hillside below the pull-out where we had stopped. It’s not a beautiful photo in the traditional sense, but I felt that it had power in the story being told.

I was struck by the gorgeous cloud formations filling the sky in every direction, but this view of the valley in the distance drew my attention. I love the colorful wildflowers in the foreground that really compliment the drama in the sky behind them.

My patience was rewarded when the light moved into the perfect position over the valley to complete this composition. I really love the atmospheric conditions in this capture.

We were treated to the most spectacular sunset as we finished our drive after our adventure. I couldn’t resist pulling over and capturing this idyllic scene of quintessential Idaho farmland.
